About me

(I swear I'll make it quick!)

Hello and welcome to my little bit of the interweb. This is just a little bit about me, and I swear I’ll keep it short and sweet.

I joined the Royal Navy in 1993 as an apprentice and went on to serve for twenty years, the majority of that time spent in the Submarine Service. I started out as an apprentice and eventually rose through the ranks, taking a commission as an engineering officer in 2001. From then I served on submarines as an engineering office and Nuclear Reactor Plant Supervisor. My responsibilities ranged from the safe operation of the submarine’s nuclear power plant, to the hydraulic plants, the fridges, and the temperamental toilets (it was the latter of these tasks, the ‘heads’, that brought the majority of pressure).

I’ve written short stories and novels from when I was a child and all the way through my naval career – I just love reading and writing! I completed an MA in Creative Writing at Portsmouth University shortly before leaving the navy in 2013, and I completed my debut novel, The Dark Beneath (Initially released as Tenacity), shortly afterwards.

I live in sunny Somerset with my partner, Roisin, and my two children. I love motorbikes, rugby (Exeter Chiefs and the Scotland National side) and talking about how I’m going to lose some weight (ongoing).

Feel free to reach out to me on Twitter or Facebook. Thanks for reading : )
